Global competition must be met with increased flexibility, higher quality and System 3R puts continuous effort into developing products for new fields of application. MacroNano, which is now well on the way to changing stock removal standards, is just such a product.
Not so long ago, nanotechnology (accuracy to less than one thousandth of a millimetre) was regarded as unachievable when machining using conventional equipment. Now, nanotechnology is becoming a reality in an increasing number of applications. Nonetheless, a precondition for nano-machining is that the workpieces and cutting tools must be mounted with the same precision – at the very least!
MacroNano is a pallet system that achieves this. A system that offers extreme system accuracy. Using MacroNano, workpieces can be quickly and easily moved from machine to machine throughout the entire process chain – without losing any of the system’s ultra precision.
This extreme accuracy comes from the system’s components (chuck, pallet and drawbar) having been designed and produced using the latest in these technologies. All chuck references are in cemented carbide and there is a pneumatic sensor function that ensures correct changing. Pallets are hardened and rust-resistant. They also have all references in a single plane – no shearing forces. Ground-in references arranged crosswise permit 90º indexing. Floating drawbar with ball-grip (ground surface) gives symmetrical traction – no transverse forces. The torsional rigidity is unsurpassed.
Studies at Fraunhofer IPT in Aachen show an indexing accuracy of better than 0.5 µm for a part produced using diamond flycutting and MacroNano’s in-built indexing function (4 x 90º). This excellent result was achieved even though more than one machine was involved in production!
Generating considerable added value for manufacturers all around the world, System 3R’s comprehensive programme of quality tools and pallet and automation systems now has yet another addition – MacroNano!
